Job Title:    Funding and Governance Coordinator

Position:    Part Time, flexible (20 hours/week)

Location:    Kingston, ON

Job Duration:   46 weeks beginning Jan 25, 2010

Salary: $17, 500

Loving Spoonful is a food justice organization engaged in a broad range of food security projects in Kingston, ON.  Our mandate is to enhance access to healthy food for low-income citizens in Kingston, including:

  1. Increasing the amount of fresh food available through meal programs and agencies through the reclaiming of surplus food.
  2. Enhancing healthy food access in low income neighbourhoods in Kingston
  3. Increasing Kingston’s capacity for growing our own food locally, particularly in neighbourhoods where the population is food insecure
  4. Creating awareness about poverty and food insecurity

The Funding and Governance Coordinator will work with the Loving Spoonful Coordinator over 46 weeks to create and implement a plan for ensuring the long-term viability of Loving Spoonful. Responsibilities include:

  1. Identifying and pursuing a broad range of funding strategies in order to diversify Loving Spoonful’s funding base and to establish a long-term funding plan.  Identifying and mentoring Loving Spoonful volunteers who are interested in gaining experience with fundraising and non-profit governance processes.
  2. Pursuing non-profit corporation status for Loving Spoonful, including the establishing a board of directors and developing bylaws.
  3. Working with the Loving Spoonful coordinator to develop a five-year plan for a sustainable organization.

The successful candidate for this position will demonstrate strength in the following areas:

  • Successful grant writing and other forms of fundraising
  • Experience working with a range of non-profit organizations at the board or administrative level and familiarity with a range of governance models.
  • Thorough understanding of food security/food justice issues and a demonstrated commitment to anti-oppression, anti-racism and social justice.
  • Proven ability to coordinate and mobilize volunteers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Proven ability to work independently
