Discover the Tastes of Oak Street! – Aug 24

All are welcome to join us at our Garden Celebration, located at the Oak Street Community Garden on Tuesday Aug 24 from 5-7pm.  Sample delicious food prepared on site by local chef Deborah Washingston!  Deborah Washington, born and raised in Kingston, is a personal chef and teacher who is also an avid garden.  Children and the young at heart are invited to try making ice cream in our soccer ball!  Contact growarow@lovingspoonful.org for more information and find a map at http://oakstreegarden.wordpress.com!

Community Garden Bike Tour!

Loving Spoonful at Princess Street Promenade!

Loving Spoonful will have a table set up at the Princess Street Promenade!  This event will take place on Princess Street July 31, 10am – 6pm.  Loving Spoonful will be sharing a space with the Community Garden Network, and Urban Agriculture Kingston in front of Tara Natural Foods (between Wellington and King on Princess).  The Princess Street Promenade is a street festival intended to make Princess Street a lively, fun, pedestrian-friendly and commercially active location- promoting downtown businesses, community involvement, and the sustainability off active transport (like walking and cycling).  Come visit Loving Spoonful’s booth to learn more about Grow-a-Row or Loving Spoonful, or to contribute to the “fingerprint flower” mural.

July 28: "The Art of Food"

“The Art of Food” is a special event hosted at the Community Harvest Market, 50 Mccauley Street.  It is happening next Wednesday July 28 from 3-7pm. It features live music (4.30-6.30), a composting workshop (3.30), cooking workshops, a balloonologist and a face painter, in addition to a BBQ, taste tasting, and a children’s activity area.

Apple Pie Fundraiser!

This fall, Loving Spoonful is preparing fresh, delicious, ready to bake or freeze apple pies made from Ontario apples!  Buy one for your home, or donate one that Loving Spoonful can distribute to local emergency meal programs!  Pies will be prepared and are available for pick-up on Sat. Oct 2 and Sun. Oct. 3 at Tara Natural Foods (81 Princess St) and St Vincent de Paul Society (85A Stephen St).

Pies cost $7.00 each, or $20.00 for three pies. Click here to download the order form. Please bring your completed form and payment to Tara Natural Foods.  Every pie purchased will help support Loving Spoonful as it strives to enhance access to healthy food for all in Kingston.

Hiring a Grow a Row Coordinator

Loving Spoonful is pleased to announce that we have received funding from the KFL&A United Way to hire a Grow a Row Coordinator.

Changed Workbee Date next week!

Next week the workbee will happen on Thursday July 15 instead of the usual Tuesday date.  The workbee is being changed to coincide with the Oak Street Community Garden Midsummer party!  This combination event for both garden participants and Loving Spoonful volunteers will have sausages, veggie dogs, and salads.  This is a fantastic opportunity to meet other volunteers and garden enthusiasts!  Please bring your own plates and cutlery.

Children's Activities at Kingston Public Market!

Help decorate the Loving Spoonful garden mural!  Kids can drop by and add their own “fingerprint flower” to a mural that will eventually help decorate the Acorn Garden, Loving Spoonful’s learning and donation garden.  Visit the Loving Spoonful booth at the back of the Kingston Public Market to participate, to drop off your garden’s Grow-a-Row donations, or to learn more about Loving Spoonful and its initiatives!

Children's Activities at the Community Harvest Market!

Every Wednesday at the Community Harvest Market (located at the Wally Elmer Centre, 50 Maccauley St.) join Dawne as she hosts children’s gardening activities.  Children will help Dawne maintain the “Pizza Garden” that grows onions, peppers, tomatoes, and basil, and participate in different featured activities weekly!

This week, Dawne will host a sign making session-  kids can help create colourful signs for the Pizza Garden or for their gardens at home!  Starting around 3.30pm, materials will be provided and everyone is welcome to drop in and join!
