Loving Spoonful at Kingston Public Market

Starting on Saturday June 12th, Loving Spoonful will be at the Kingston Public Market downtown from 2-4 on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays collecting surplus food from vendors and food grown for the Grow a Row campaign (www.growarow.lovingspoonful.org).  Come check out our booth to learn more about Loving Spoonful and its initiatives, or to drop off any extra produce from your garden!

Workbee at the Acorn Garden

Starting June 8, join Loving Spoonful staff and volunteers at the Acorn Garden (located at the Oak Street Community Garden) every Tuesday from 4-6 pm!  These workbees are the perfect opportunity to learn about gardening, to share your gardening wisdom with others, and to help grow produce that will be donated to local meal programs and food banks.

Earth, Body, and Spirit Expo

Come visit the Loving Spoonful‘s exhibit at Kingston’s Earth, Body, and Spirit Expo!

The Expo will feature a host of Health and Wellness Practitioners, Sustainable Living Businesses, and Personal Growth experts.  Admission is $3 (and free for children under 12) and it is located at the Invista Centre at 1350 Gardiner’s Road (at Fortune Crescent) in Kingston.

Summer students!

Loving Spoonful is pleased to announce  Sarah Foohey, Mariann Koves, Usman Mushtaq and Dawne Olafson as our summer students! You will be able to meet Sarah and Dawne at the Acorn Garden plot at the Tuesday workbees (details to be announced) and Usman and Mariann at the Grow a Row booth located at the Downtown Public Market.  Welcome!

On Tuesday May 4th, Wellington Acupuncture and Massage and Anglin Bay Pottery held a fundraiser for Loving Spoonful.  Wellington Acupuncture and Massage host an annual fundraiser for a local community group and selected Loving Spoonful this year! Hiring 2 Queen's Work Study students

If you are a Queen’s student that qualifies for the Queen’s Work Study program (more info here – http://www.queensu.ca/registrar/awards/student/student-workprogram.html) and are a full time student in the Spring/Summer term, contact us!

We are hiring 2 work study student to work on the Grow a Row campaign. Each position will be roughly 90 hours of work over the course of the summer at a rate of $11/hour. Work will involve volunteer coordination, promotional work, gardening and more. Some work hours will be on evenings and weekends.

Serving Up Some Soul – April 24th, 10pm

Loving Spoonful is pleased to announce our upcoming fundraiser organized by the Soul Shakedown Collective in Kingston! Details: Saturday April 24th, 10pm at Time to Laugh Comedy Club (394 Princess St). $8 before 11pm, $10 after.

General Volunteer Meeting – April 7th

We will be hosting a volunteer meeting for new volunteers to learn about how to get involved in Loving Spoonful and to find out what projects we have on the go. We will be recruiting folks to join the Grow a Row committee and Special Events/Fundraising Committee.  We hope to see you there!

Grow a Row Planning Meeting – March 29th

We want to start planning the 2010 Grow a Row campaign and are looking for many people to join us! The GROW A ROW COMMITTEE will work with Susan to coordinate all aspects of the Grow a Row Campaign including but not limited to: producing promotional materials to circulate in the community, arranging public displays in different locations in town, outreaching to community organizations and groups to sign up to “grow a row” in their gardens, contacting media for publicity, working out logistics of drop off points, collecting produce throughout the summer and fall, organizing an end of season celebration and thank you to all individuals and organizations who contributed to the 2010 campaign.
