Volunteer Orientation and Silkscreening Social

We are holding a Volunteer Orientation and Silkscreening Social on Wednesday, November 30th from 7-9pm. It will be located in Rm. 217 of the Memorial Centre, 303 York Street. Everyone is welcome to attend, and new volunteers or people interested in volunteering are especially encouraged to come learn about our many projects and how you can get involved. You will also have the chance to silkscreen clothing items with our Loving Spoonful logo! Bring along a t-shirt, sweatshirt and/or cloth shopping bag to be printed. We will also have some aprons on hand for people to print and take home with them. This will be a fun night to get to know the Loving Spoonful team and learn a new skill!

Oak Street Garden Community Harvest Party

Loving Spoonful, Grow a Row, and the Acorn Garden would like to invite you to celebrate the end of another fantastic growing season with us at the Oak St. Community Garden’s Fall Clean Up Party on Sunday, October 16th from 3-6 p.m. Regular volunteers, curious community members and old friends and family are all welcome to join!

The Acorn Garden is grown for the sole purpose of donating its harvest to Grow a Row, and we are excited to announce that this year we have already collected 6500 lbs of fresh produce, blowing away our original goal of 5000 lbs!

We have a bunch of fun activities planned throughout the afternoon! We will be putting the garden plots to bed for the winter, as well as planting some garlic (which we harvested from our very own garden this year!) There will also be a craft table for the kids, so come out and enjoy the fun!

Don’t miss out on our other activities and workshops we have planned!
3pm: Composting Workshop
4pm: A backyard Hen demonstration
5pm: Time to share a meal!

All are welcome to join us and bring a dish to share, dishes to eat on/with, and your favourite gardening gloves, tools and accesories :-) We hope you can join us in celebrating a phenomenal season here at the garden!

Hope to see you all there!!

First workbee a success!

Loving Spoonful hosted its first community kitchen workbee on Wednesday, November 24th. We cooked, pureed and packaged more than 50 cups (30 pounds) of local pumpkin and squash to distribute to emergency food providers. Throughout the course of the evening, we discussed ideas for future workshops, pumpkin/squash recipes, and how our community kitchen project can be as productive and rewarding as possible. This was a great start to our series of workbees and workshops over the coming months. Saturday November 27th, we will be prepping and freezing donated red peppers and onions, and in the new year, we look forward to making sauces, learning and teaching canning skills, and distributing even more healthy food in our community. Watch for details on this exciting new initiative over the coming weeks and months. To get involved, please email kate@lovingspoonful.org
