Loving Spoonful hosted its first community kitchen workbee on Wednesday, November 24th. We cooked, pureed and packaged more than 50 cups (30 pounds) of local pumpkin and squash to distribute to emergency food providers. Throughout the course of the evening, we discussed ideas for future workshops, pumpkin/squash recipes, and how our community kitchen project can be as productive and rewarding as possible. This was a great start to our series of workbees and workshops over the coming months. Saturday November 27th, we will be prepping and freezing donated red peppers and onions, and in the new year, we look forward to making sauces, learning and teaching canning skills, and distributing even more healthy food in our community. We want to start planning the 2010 Grow a Row campaign and are looking for many people to join us! The GROW A ROW COMMITTEE will work with Susan to coordinate all aspects of the Grow a Row Campaign including but not limited to: producing promotional materials to circulate in the community, arranging public displays in different locations in town, outreaching to community organizations and groups to sign up to “grow a row” in their gardens, contacting media for publicity, working out logistics of drop off points, collecting produce throughout the summer and fall, organizing an end of season celebration and thank you to all individuals and organizations who contributed to the 2010 campaign.
