Our Gleaning program works with dozens of local farmers to collect surplus food, and redistribute that food to alleviate food insecurity in the community.
Our Gleaning program works with local farmers to collect surplus food, and redistribute that food to alleviate food insecurity in the community. In 2023, we collected over $100,000 dollars worth of fresh, local food thanks to some incredibly generous farmers!
Gleaning Programs
On-Farm Pickups
Our volunteers pick up surplus food directly from local farms weekly, or on an ad-hoc basis.
Farmers Market Pickups
Our volunteers collect surplus food from vendors at the end of the farmers market day. We operate at the Kingston Public Market and the Memorial Centre Farmers Market.
Gleaning Harvest Trips
Our staff and volunteers will visit local farms to harvest any surplus crops. We can also arrange harvest trips for urban locations, especially for fruit! Gleaning Harvest Trips are always supervised by an experienced staff member.
